Abstract

Fine Arts High Schools (GSL), which constitute an important part of artistic education in Turkey, are institutions affiliated to the Ministry of National Education that accept students with a special aptitude test. These high schools aim to prepare students who are willing and talented in art for higher education with field courses. Instrument training is one of the basic elements of these field courses. The main purpose of this study is to examine the attitudes of students who receive individual instrument training in GSL music departments towards instrument lessons and to provide information that will contribute to music education and instrument education.
In the study, the survey model was used and the data were collected by descriptive method. The "Individual Instrument Lesson Attitude Scale" developed by Yalçınkaya and Eldemir (2013) and consisting of 18 questions was used as a data collection tool. The population of the study consists of GSL students studying in the 2022-2023 academic year at GSLs located in different regions of Turkey. The sample consists of 134 students studying at Samsun İlkadım GSL, Çorum GSL, Amasya GSL, Tokat GSL, Sinop GSL, Ordu-Penbe GSL, Giresun GSL and Trabzon Fine Arts High Schools in the 2022-2023 academic year. The obtained data were transferred to SPSS
25.0 (The Statistical Packet for Social Sciences) package program and statistical solutions were made. Frequency
(f), percentage (%) and arithmetic mean values of students' attitudes towards instrument lessons were calculated,
and independent t-test and analysis of variance (ANOVA) were applied to determine whether there was a significant difference in students' attitudes towards instrument lessons in general, according to the variables of class, school, instrument type and province where their schools are located. The findings of the study showed that the attitudes of GSL music department students towards instrument lessons were generally positive There was no significant difference in terms of the type of instrument and the province where the school is located. In the class variable, it was observed that there was a significant difference in attitude level.
